Save the Bees

Problem

Bees are extremely important for our environment. As you may have heard, the population is shrinking at a disturbingly fast rate. There have been many initiatives."Honeybees and the other pollinators and the invaluable pollinating services they provide us with helped produce approximately $19 billion worth of agricultural crops in the U.S. alone in 2010" says Jessica Tucker. This shows just how important it is to save bees. Not only is it an environmental problem, but also an economical problem."In the last half decade alone 30% of the national bee population has disappeared and nearly a third of all bee colonies in the U.S. have perished." This quote from Joachim Hagopian really shows how desperate the situation is. Therefore several solutions are necessary."The number of hives in the United States is now at its lowest point in the past 50 years" says Jennifer Sass. T. Yet another quote to show how miserable the situation is.

Cause

The main reason for Bee extinction are the many Pesticides used to eradicate other insects, which end up also harming the bees. Although many pesticides have been banned, there is still a substantial amount of them on the market.

Solution

There are several solutions, some more efficient than others. I have listed a few solutions you could easily follow to save the bees

  • Buy Organic fruits and vegetables, they don't use pesticides in the production
  • Plant a garden with plants that bees like, or just have a flower on your terrace, anything helps.
  • Build a shelter for bees. Although Honeybees create waxy combs, most other bees live in small shelters.
  • When you see a Bee, don't kill it
